What it looks like
Kicking » Lofted kick
How?
“The Lofted kick is like an exaggerated chip. Approach the ball standing straight and then lean back. Your head should tilt back while your body and eyes should be level with the horizon. Your weight should be applied to the heel of your non-kicking foot, arms outstretched with the arm on the opposite side to the kicking foot in a forward position ready to pull round. The ball should be struck underneath, where the ball sits on the ground.”
Why?
“A lofted kick is simply where the ball is struck high into the air over a large area to land at a precise area. During a match the lofted kick is often used to reach players that were not active in play but are in a useful area. The most common use of the lofted kick is for an attacking player to run on to.”
Tips & drills
In pairs, stand at opposite sides of a football pitch, or a similar distance apart. Try to improve your accuracy whilst maintaining the height on the ball.
